Haywards Heath History of Art class – Trip to the Courtauld Institute 9th Feb 2012

Hi there,I am taking students from the Haywards Heath Art History classes to the Courtauld Institute, London on Thursday 9th February 2012. We shall meet outside the Courtauld Institute on the Strand for 11.30 am. David Hockney – the Bigger Picture

Now that I have got Da Vinci out of the way, I can talk about the real hot show in London at the moment.

David Hockney's exhibition is at the Royal Academy until April 9th. I would advise booking tickets, especially if you're going at the weekend.

Leonardo Da Vinci in the Court of Milan

Leonardo Da Vinci is adored by people who know little about art, and the popularity of this exhibition is evidence to this incongruity.

Has anyone noticed that half the works exhibited in the National Gallery's special exhibition are not by Leonardo at all, but by his students? We know Da Vinci had a butterfly mind and could not stay engaged with one project for very long. He did not finish a lot of paintings, but one would have thought the curators could have made something…
